This book explores the journey of DCFA since 2021 and the thoughts, ideas, conversations and case studies of the collective that seeks not only to design a more inclusive tomorrow but to play a role in processing the collective trauma of our time – “the shared wound embedded in cultural narratives, societal structures, and historical events,” as DCFA fellow Shinta Oosterwaal defines in her essay. Exclusion is a common and deeply felt wound. The primary goal of DCFA was, and continues to be, to challenge the status quo of exclusion by design, exploring how cities can be crafted to ensure that everyone and every living being feels a sense of belonging – no matter who they might be.
