Embassy of Digital Futures at DDW24
Digital technology is entering all parts of our lives, often without us even noticing. More and more, algorithms decide what we see, hear, and read, and they influence our thoughts and decisions. While some people dream of a future where technology solves all our problems, others warn about the dangers of a world controlled by machines and data.
We are at a crossroads between utopia and dystopia, between an ideal world and a nightmare. Of course, we don’t want a dystopian digital system. But even a utopia—a perfect digital future—has a chance of going too far. How do we learn to move responsibly between these two extremes? Design can play an important role in this. At the exposition, the Embassy will show you how design can help us discover what we still need to learn, and how and where we can and want to adjust. Not with a one-off design or with a small group of people, but structurally and with an entire movement.
