Embassy of Inclusive Society conference

Although diversity and inclusion are gaining traction in our society, there is still much to improve. Because people will always be different and societies change, it is important to keep asking questions about social norms and relationships. The Embassy of Inclusive Society invites you to see inclusiveness as a process. Every decision or action leads to a next step, a new learning moment. Something we continuously reflect on together.

On 25 October, we do this in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. We reflect on existing design processes, our ideas on beauty and on making information accessible. How can we inspire each other to develop inclusive experiences? And what role does the design sector play in this?

Programme:

During this morning, we reflect on inclusive design and inclusive design processes. We will start the morning with a performance by Sencity, a multi-sensory festival for experiencing music, art, science and storytelling. We will then learn more about the foundation behind Sencity: Possibilize Foundation. Ronald Ligtenberg, CEO of Possibilize, takes us through the challenges and inspirations around creating an accessible festival.

Fenne Roefs and Jasper Goossensen from design agency Mijksenaar, experts on signage, share insights on multi-sensory signage and how it contributes to accessibility and an inclusive experience. Aline Gerards and Hedwich Hooghiemstra present their research on the design of public quiet spaces, focusing on accessibility and user experience.

After a short break, we will continue with prototypes for the Accessible Cultural Sector Knowledge Centre, developed by Zeewaardig and Greenberry. Commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, they are working on a knowledge point to make the cultural sector more accessible for people with disabilities. During this interactive part of the programme, we will dive into a number of prototypes, which we can test and discuss. This way, we will learn from each other’s perspectives and together take the next step towards a more inclusive cultural sector.
