Embassy of Urban Mobility conference

Cities are one of mankind’s most important inventions. We grow up in them, live, work, learn and love. In recent decades, mobility has increasingly been driven by the idea of ‘smart cities.’ Technology as an end rather than means with the efficiency of the system as the outcome.
There are big issues around urbanisation and the connection between cities. Mobility is the strong connecting factor between the themes of urbanisation, infrastructure and public space. This time offers an opportunity to go back to the drawing board to contemplate liveable cities. And makes it possible to rectify the design error of the last century, which focused unilaterally on the efficiency of the mobility system.
The glasses with which you look at the world are coloured. Just like the efficiency glasses with which we as a society look at mobility. Most of the time, we don’t realise that we are looking at the world through our own glasses. Today we do because we are going to look at the world of mobility through three new spectacles. Be surprised this morning. And look at a world that may not yet belong to you, and can show new perspectives precisely because of that.
With contributions of Saskia van den Muijsenberg, Ruut Veenhoven and Sune Knudsen.
