PONT session: Responsible together, is that even possible?

What are your personal and professional values? And where do they overlap and intersect with the people you work with? A better understanding of each other’s perspectives can greatly enrich a collaboration. PONT therefore organises ‘meaning days’ together with Dick Rijken: meetings focusing on value conflicts in the creative and public domain. Think responsibility vs liability or justice vs legality. Can we learn from each other’s values and set ground rules for better collaboration?

This session focuses on the question: Can we really be jointly responsible? We explore how designers, in collaboration with others, can play a role in developing meaningful interventions off the beaten track. But who bears responsibility when something new is tried? And who is liable if something goes wrong? What does it require of us to do what is necessary, and how do you design accountability?

What to expect:

We explore the formal and informal aspects of collaborations in complex situations, with a special focus on youth care, where responsibilities often clash. How do we deal with protocols that sometimes do not meet the urgency or complexity of the issues? We highlight different perspectives, from governance experts and designers to the stories of families and young people who deserve a fair chance.

Following:

At 12:30 PM we will conclude with an included lunch. Participants of this subsession will also receive an entrance ticket for Dutch Design Week. A group of 30 participants can also join the PONT curated Dutch Design Week tour from 13:30 PM – 15:30 PM. A tour guide will take the group past exhibits at Dutch Design Week focusing on design for social issues and collaboration between designers and government.
