Building as a Landscape
This 1:20 scale model explores how buildings and their surroundings can seamlessly blend in both form and ecology, aiming to blur the boundary between nature and architecture.
The pavilion is an artistic representation of how we can create buildings from the urban landscape that contribute to urban ecology and interact with their surroundings. The foundation of the pavilion is printed in-situ using local soil, where the removed earth creates space for a body of water surrounding the pavilion. This body of water retains water and improves the ecology in an urban context.
The shell structure explores the potential of sustainable materials for large constructive spans, applicable to both infrastructure and housing. On the outside, a stepped design ensures delayed water drainage, which flows back into the environment. The pavilion functions as a ‘living lab,’ where nature- and water-inclusive building systems are tested, monitored, and serve as a meeting place with social and inspirational value.
