Design anthropology in the context of social issues

Design Anthropology in the context of social issues invites policymakers to become acquainted with design anthropology as a new approach to inclusive citizen participation. On the other hand, it provides designers and artists with more tools for participatory art and design.

Design anthropology combines elements from the two disciplines in a rapidly evolving academic and design field. For Bureau Ruimtekoers it is an approach that enables joint involvement in social issues and (future) policy making, as well as an artistic framework for participatory art projects. This results in long-term involvement of residents, which was not achieved by previous efforts of policy makers. Another result is the creation of new collaborations, in which artists, residents and policy makers contribute to improving the social environment with fresh perspectives.

In the installation, Bureau Ruimtekoers shares a five-step process based on the principles of design anthropology. Design anthropologist Tina Lenz will lead a workshop on 26 October focusing on the central question:
how do you connect with a community you don’t know yet?
