Lorem Ipsum

How do we hold space for the different needs of different bodies?

Lorem ipsum is a placeholder. Designers use it as a temporary text in their process, when designing books or websites, for example.

In 2023, the Embassy of Inclusive Society started the Lorem Ipsum research project. We developed guidelines and advice for accessible and inclusive presentations. About the height of artworks so that people in wheelchairs can see it properly, for instance. Or about the colour of texts so that they are easy to read.

The video of that first phase of the project is part of this year’s presentation. The whole installation is on show in the Bruns exhibition space. The designers of the 2024 WDE exhibition also used some of the guidelines to make the exhibition more accessible. During DDW 2024, we will extend the Lorem Ipsum research and explore what it takes to design accessible and enriching events for everybody.

Accessibility is about learning to design for everybody. This is a process: it means making choices while knowing there is always room for improvement. With Lorem Ipsum, the Embassy of Inclusive Society invites the public, designers, and cultural institutions to think about accessibility. And about how design can make space for different bodily experiences.
