POND, microbes that give water a voice

The outdoor light installation POND (Power Of Nature-based Design) gives water a voice by measuring her health and revealing her well-being through magical colour projections. The colours and rhythm of the light change based on the condition of the water. This process operates fully independently. It is powered by energy generated by bacteria in the water via microbial fuel cell technology.

After four years of development by Nova Innova and its partners, this innovative system is now on display for the first time in the water at the Van Abbemuseum during Dutch Design Week.
