4x projects that contribute to the circular transition
An economy where no raw materials are lost. An economy where we reuse raw materials all the time. That is the circular transition and it goes beyond recycling. It is mainly about the transition to an economy that is not based on infinite growth, but in which we reduce our use of raw materials, replace raw materials, extend the lifespan of products and process raw materials in a high-quality manner. Curious about examples? In the various exhibitions of the World Design Embassies, you will find projects that contribute to a circular economy during Dutch Design Week 2023 (DDW23).
Biobased Creations together with Studio Liselot Cobelens, Klarenbeek&Dros, Fix Green Building and Crush on Nature – Possible landscapes vernatting, De Peel
With the installation Possible Landscapes De Peel, designers show the possibilities for nature development and agriculture in the humidified landscape of the Deurnese Peel. Sample maps of water and soil management and models tell you the story of how we can live and work in harmony with nature in the future. What does this mean for the landscape of De Peel? How does a farm fit into this wet landscape? How can you use local crops as building materials? What products and materials can come from a farm? Possible Landscapes vernatting – the Peel is a starting point to discuss sustainable area development in vernated landscapes; proposals for a promising future image. As a creative studio, Biobased Creations specialises in installations, projects and storytelling about the transition to a regenerative and circular world.
To be found during DDW23 in the exhibition of the Embassy of Circular & Biobased Building at the Ketelhuisplein in Eindhoven.
Biobased Creations – Possible Landscapes Biobased Infra, Zwanenburg
Possible Landscapes Biobased Infra, Zwanenburg investigates the possible chains and landscapes for biobased and nature-inclusive civil engineering works, such as bridges, tunnels and sheet piling. In this research, Hoeve Zwanenburg and Oirschot area act as Third Place, a social environment separated from home and work, such as a cafĂ©, coffee shop footpath and park. Besides Possible Landscapes humidification, the Peel, this project is also part of Possible Landscapes, a multi-year research programme on today’s and tomorrow’s regenerative landscapes and cities. This multi-year research programme involves several cases. For each case, creatives work together with local stakeholders and partners on new perspectives for the living environment that add ecological and social value in addition to economic value.
During DDW23, the first session of this research will take place at the Embassy of Circular & Biobased Building on the Ketelhuisplein in Eindhoven.
Lotte de Raadt – The identity of our drinking water
Every drop of water that comes out of the tap is unique. Ceramicist Lotte de Raadt designed a drinking water passport for the different water sources in Brabant in 2019. During DDW23, you can use this passport to experience the role of nature and the process from source to tap. You will see where the water comes from that we use every day in and around our homes. The passport ensures that we use water respectfully, sparingly and gratefully. In doing so, it aims to raise public awareness of water use issues.
To be found during DDW23 at the Embassy of Water exhibition on Stadhuisplein in Eindhoven.
mulderendevries architects & Joost van Gorkom – Visualisations on regenerative housing design
mulderendevries architects, together with Joost van Gorkom, created a number of visualisations of a virtual future depicting regenerative water design in our housing and living environments for the Embassy of Water. These visualisations show the Embassy of Water’s insights from five years of water design. They show how innovative water systems can function in homes and what decentralised treatment can do for a city. The work makes clear what living in harmony and cooperation with water can look like. As such, the visualisations are proposals for a new and promising vision of the future.
During DDW23, this project can be found in the Embassy of Water exhibition on Stadhuisplein in Eindhoven.
