Watch the WDE Talk: How do we design a safe and inclusive society?
How can designers contribute to a society in which everyone feels seen and represented, and in which polarisation is counteracted?
An inclusive society is an open society that is committed to the participation of all. A society where every citizen has a stake and where the notion of reciprocity is central. What if it is not? Polarisation is lurking. The ‘us and them’ mentality is gaining ground. This plays a major role in subversion in neighbourhoods.
On Thursday 1 July, you heard all about it during the fourth WDE Talk at Pakhuis de Zwijger. This was also the last WDE Talk in this series. We talked to Tabo Goudswaard (curator Embassy of Safety) and Jorn Konijn (curator Embassy of Inclusive Society). Lawyer Domenica Ghidei Biidu joined us as an expert in the field. Apart from being a member of the Human Rights Council for years, Domenica is currently a member of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance and she is part of the Advisory Board of the Integration & Society Knowledge Platform.
In this project, we explore the various ways in which designers can contribute to a society in which everyone feels seen and represented. And a society that counters polarisation.
